The competitive audit for this client was more brief then I’m use to, not because there is a lack of competitors, but because the rivaling sites and companies are not something that I would emulate. In theory we could conclude that because the competitors sites are not very good, that most of their business comes from in person transaction, however it shouldn’t have to be that way. Using the right approach, any website should include the necessary tools to allow their users to connect.
User Research
The desired users are architects and general contractors, when defining these users one of the most common traits that I saw was being more demanding when it came to being resourceful. Both end users want results and they want them fast, meaning that the messaging has to be direct. They’re also fairly educated, meaning that grammatical errors and improper spelling would be even more damaging than usual. There was a fine line that had to be walked in order to create something that both personalities could use.
The Design
The concept for this build was using a dark theme, knowing that both these user types tend to either work very early or very late. There are options to change the color scheme on the site to better match the time of day. I also incorporated some subtle line work, that would be slightly reminiscent of a blueprint or measurement line.

Project Summery
This project has just launched, so we are currently taking in post-launch data and running some stakeholder interviews to determine the impact of the site. On top of this, there was already a considerable amount of SEO benefits that we’re included with the site, and featured some functionality that really let users define their own path.
